Our Story & Philosophy

About Cut Video Gaps Built by Manpreet Singh

A local-first desktop app for Mac built to eliminate the single most monotonous task in video production: manually cutting out pauses, hesitations, and dead air.

The Editor Pain It Solves

Every video creator, podcaster, and YouTube editor knows the exhaustion of the "rough cut". You sit down with 45 minutes of raw, unscripted footage. Before you can even begin color grading, B-roll selection, or narrative pacing, you must spend hours pressing the blade tool, slicing on either side of dead air, and ripple-deleting the gap.

In one 1:38 sample take, the app found 11 pauses, about seven a minute, which works out to roughly 100 in a 15-minute talking-head video. At around 30 seconds per manual cut, that is close to an hour of tedious scrubbing. It is repetitive, draining work that drains the creative energy required for meaningful storytelling.

Why Cloud Silence Cutters Aren't the Answer

When searching for solutions, most video editors run into cloud web apps. While convenient for light browser tasks, cloud editors come with severe trade-offs for video pros:

  • Massive upload times: A 20 GB 4K camera file takes about 45 minutes to upload on a 60 Mbps connection.
  • Per-minute metering & AI token costs: Creators are forced into recurring monthly subscriptions with strict caps on hours processed.
  • Client confidentiality risks: Unreleased podcasts, client interviews, and raw footage get uploaded to third-party cloud servers.
  • Loss of timeline editing control: Cloud editors force you into their web UI rather than letting you edit non-destructively in Final Cut Pro.

The Local-First Architecture

Cut Video Gaps was engineered with a strict local-first philosophy. The desktop app for Mac is built with Electron and bundles a local Python runtime containing OpenAI's open-source Whisper model alongside high-performance FFmpeg.

No Uploads

Your video and audio never leave your Mac. Heavy processing runs on-device.

Local Whisper

Transcribes speech locally on your Mac to find authentic gap boundaries.

Editor Exports

Exports non-destructive Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro timelines or an After Effects script that point at your original media.

Because heavy video processing runs on your Mac using on-device Whisper and FFmpeg, there are no video uploads, no cloud bills, and zero third-party AI API calls or token fees. A small account and quota check runs online.

I'm a product-focused software developer specializing in building high-performance digital applications using React, TypeScript, and Electron.

With over 15 years of deep-dives into the stack, I've architected everything from media engines powered by FFmpeg to complex browser extensions that live in millions of installs. I don't just write code; I engineer experiences that are fast, scalable, and thoughtfully intuitive.

Cut Video Gaps was built out of my own daily workflow frustration: manually cutting silent pauses in talking-head videos takes hours, while cloud-based silence removers demand slow uploads and continuous monthly subscription fees.
